About Asia West

Our history

In 1992, Tod Dana began combing through the markets of Southeast Asia looking for unique, one-of-a-kind treasures.  His fascination with these beautiful cultures and their amazing, indigenous craftsmanship gave birth to Asia West, a store first opened on Commercial Street in Portland, ME in 1993.

28 years later, our team at Asia West continues a tireless hunt for treasures to supply our own retail showroom as well as many wholesale customers. Known for our very affordable prices and unique selection of home and garden furnishings, Asia West promises to be a valuable resource for both homeowners and large companies alike.

Asia West Today

Things are ever-changing at Asia West, and we are so excited for our most recent change…a full store move to our new building at 128 Cassidy Point Drive! With our whole staff and business now operating under one (much larger) roof, we can focus more energy on developing our product lines and ensuring the satisfaction of our customers.

Asia West is still owned and operated by Tod, who thoroughly enjoys frequent buying trips to Asia, where he is meeting with vendors, traders, and craftsmen, and hand-picking beautiful items to bring back to Portland. By traveling to these fantastic Asian countries, securing relationships with reliable vendors, and purchasing directly, our team personally ensures the quality and authenticity of our products. We have eliminated the middlemen and their added costs and are pleased to pass these savings on to our customers.

In addition to our retail business, we are proud to be a wholesale resource for retailers and interior designers. Asia West products are featured at home and garden shows throughout New England, and our scope continues to expand as we discover new markets in the digital age.

Our travels

We travel far and wide throughout Southern Asia to carefully select the treasures that you find at Asia West. We wholeheartedly support Fair Trade, and take great pride in working with local craftsman who engage in responsible business practices. Through the years, we have formed solid relationships with our partners and vendors, many of whom we consider to be close friends.

We are inspired by the people that we meet and the places that we go, and hope to help bring some of that inspiration into your home!
