About Asia West

Our history

Family-owned since 1993 , connecting Portland with the world.

In 1992, founder Tod Dana began exploring the vibrant markets of Southeast Asia, captivated by the region’s artistry, traditions, and craftsmanship. Inspired to share these treasures with his community, he opened the first Asia West store on Commercial Street in Portland, Maine, in 1993.

What started as a small, family-run shop has grown into both a beloved local destination and a trusted resource for retailers, interior designers, and homeowners across New England and beyond. For over 30 years, we’ve built lasting relationships with artisans and vendors overseas, allowing us to offer a collection that is authentic, affordable, and filled with pieces that tell a story.

Though our reach has expanded, our heart has never changed: we remain proudly family-owned, community rooted, and dedicated to helping our customers create spaces that are as meaningful as they are beautiful.

Asia West Today

At Asia West, change is always an opportunity to grow — and our latest chapter is an exciting one. We’ve officially moved into a brand new, larger showroom at 128 Cassidy Point Drive in Portland, bringing our entire team and operations together under one roof. This expansion allows us to focus on what matters most: curating unique, high-quality products and providing an exceptional experience for our customers.

Family-owned and operated since 1992, Asia West is led by Tod, whose passion for travel and craftsmanship inspires everything we do. On his frequent buying trips throughout Southeast Asia, Tod works directly with trusted artisans, vendors, and traders to hand select every piece in our collection. By building long term relationships and purchasing directly, we ensure authenticity, maintain ethical sourcing, and eliminate middlemen — so we can offer our customers both unmatched quality and fair prices.

In addition to our Portland showroom, we proudly serve as a trusted wholesale resource for retailers and interior designers across New England and beyond. You’ll find Asia West products featured at home and garden shows throughout the region, as well as in homes, businesses, and design projects nationwide.

Whether you’re shopping for a one of a kind piece to bring your space to life, or sourcing unique inventory for your own clients, Asia West connects you with timeless craftsmanship and the stories behind it.

Our travels

Every piece at Asia West begins with a journey. We travel throughout Southeast Asia to hand select the treasures that fill our showroom, seeking out items that carry both beauty and meaning. Along the way, we’ve built lasting relationships with talented artisans and vendors, many of whom have become dear friends over the years.

Fair Trade is at the heart of everything we do. By partnering closely with craftspeople and purchasing directly, we help ensure fair wages, safe working conditions, and sustainable livelihoods. These long term relationships, many spanning decades, allow us to honor cultural traditions while supporting communities in a way that uplifts everyone involved.

When you bring home a piece from Asia West, you’re not only adding beauty and craftsmanship to your space, you’re also joining us in supporting ethical trade and preserving traditions that deserve to thrive for generations to come.
